I. Preparing to Set the IAMS Official Website
According to the guideline set at the minister work conference of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on June 29, 2018, the Ministry’s Party Leadership Group required the IAMS to build itself by centering on six aspects, namely, “building a work team, putting in place a fund, establishing a communication mechanism, conducting a series of activities, training backbone professionals and making a host of achievements”.
At the instructions of the NMC leaders, the initial design for the IAMS website has been finished, which is www.musesilkroad.org or www.musesilkroad.com. With uploading under way, the website is set to be launched this October. The website shall support membership application, and will update the information about the IAMS work and the First IAMS Conference.
II. Preparing for the First IAMS Conference
According to the guideline set at the first work conference of the adjusted Secretariat of the IAMS, the First IAMS Conference is scheduled to co-occur with the Eighth MPT-EXPO in Fuzhou from November 23 to 26, 2018.
The conference shall discuss and adopt the IAMS Constitution, convene the Executive Council Meeting, elect and accept five international deputy chairman units. During the meeting, the following academic forums shall be held, with their respective themes being
1. Smart Museum Construction: Opportunities and Challenges
2. Museums’ Functions and Mission in Globalization and Non-globalization.
The forthcoming MPT-EXPO themed on “New Journey in the New Era for Museums” is co-sponsored by Chinese Museums Association, Chinese Association of Natural Science Museums and Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government.
Up to September 25, 2018, altogether 18 museums/organizations from 13 countries have confirmed that they shall attend the conference. Related statistics shall continue to be updated.
IAMS Work Plan
1. The Conference on “Museums and Tourism” shall be held at Zhangjiajie from October 16 to 17, 2018.
2. The First IAMS Conference shall be held in Fujian from November 23 to 26, 2018.
IAMS Major Events
On December 29, 2016, the Ministry of Culture issued the Belt and Road Cultural Development Action Plan (2016-2020).
On May 18, 2017, the IAMS was established and its Secretariat was announced to be established by Chinese Museums Association.
On June 29, 2018, Yu Qun, member of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism convened a work coordination conference of the IAMS among related leaders. He communicated the message that the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism decided to move the IAMS Secretariat into the NMC, i.e., to change the leading organization of the IAMS from Chinese Museums Association to the NMC. Accordingly, the NMC shall be responsible for the establishment and operation of relevant mechanisms and organs. The NMC was required to build a work contingent to take on the work of the IAMC Secretariat as soon as possible.
On July 6, 2018, the first work conference of the IAMS New Secretariat was held in the NMC, which made a point of sharing experience, specifying the following work, making clear the rights and duties, and seeking deeper communication and cooperation.
